While painters have often used flowers to represent purity or beauty, just as often they study them for botanical interest or to capture real scenes of gardens or floral arrangements. From Leonardo da Vinci to Degas, from Botticelli to Monet, we shall examine some remarkable paintings that show the many ways that the masters have used flowers, sometimes in the most surprising ways.
